Quick look at the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD (2024)

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is the most extreme Mustang and also one of the most extreme road cars ever made. Its body is largely made out of carbon fiber, and it's rocking a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 under its hood that is promised to make over 800 horsepower. Ford created this beast with Multimatic as its partner, and it will be built by Multimatic at its Ontario facility. Each one will cost over $300,000, and you'll be able to have it painted and color you want. Ford isn't saying how many it will make, but trust that it'll be extremely rare and extremely good to drive.

ZAC PALMER: Hey, guys. Zac Palmer with "Autoblog" here, and right behind me is the 2025 Mustang GTD. Now this is our first look in person at the GTD, which is basically just a race car for the road at this point. You look at it, there's scarcely a body panel on it that actually matches up with a regular Mustang.

So right now we're looking at the side. You can see those magnesium wheels down there-- those are optional-- along with 21 inch carbon ceramic brakes made by Brembo down in there. Now getting to the front, of course, big news here. We have the 5.2 liter supercharged V8 engine. Ford says over 800 horsepower. We expect them to easily exceed that figure.

And one big thing to highlight up front here too is just the obsessive amount of aero that is on this car. The splitters, the wickers, everything about it is designed to produce massive amounts of downforce. Like I said, a race car for the road. You can see the huge fender vents in there. The giant side sills. This is a serious, serious piece of work.

Now as we get around to the side, we see even more aero because, well, we got that massive wing back there. This car has a true drag reduction system. So that means it has a flap, so when you're full throttle on the straights the flap opens, giving you maximum speed. When you slam on the gas, the flap closes, giving you maximum downforce and maximum braking force. It's exactly what you want in a race car. Formula 1 cars have DRS. So does this Mustang GTD.

Now as we spin around to the back, there isn't actually a trunk on this Mustang. There aren't rear seats either. But in place of the trunk we have a very special suspension-- a pushrod inboard suspension. No other Mustang has that. But it takes up the space of the trunk, so this isn't your Mustang you can pop down to the shops with and go get some groceries.

Ford says it's going to cost about $300,000. It's being made of course as a partnership with Ford and Multimatic. Multimatic are the same people that make the Ford GT, so a very, very special partnership here. There's not going to be a lot of them out there, but they are going to be super, super cool and easily the coolest Mustang ever made, and maybe even one that they ever will make. So that's the Mustang here from the Detroit Auto Show.
